Five habits that cut your trading fees, starting today

Fees are the one cost in trading you control completely. These five changes reduce them without changing your strategy.

1. Rest your orders when you can

On Bybit perpetuals a maker order costs about a third of a taker order. If your entry does not need to be immediate, place a limit order a tick inside the spread and let the market come to you. Over a month of active trading this alone is the biggest single saving available.

2. Trade under a rebate

Once you are referred, a share of every fee you pay comes back daily. It applies to maker and taker, spot and perpetual, and it does not change how you trade. The only condition is that the account was registered through the referral link, so set it up before your first trade, not after.

3. Avoid tiny orders

Fees are a percentage, so size does not change the rate, but very small orders invite overtrading: more fills, more round trips, more fees for the same exposure. Decide the position, enter it in one or two orders, and avoid nibbling.

4. Watch the funding, not just the fee

On perpetuals the funding payment every eight hours can cost more than the trading fee if you hold through several intervals on the expensive side. Check the funding rate before holding a position overnight; sometimes the spot market or a dated contract is the cheaper way to hold the same view.

5. Use the fee coupons, but know the trade-off

Bybit hands out fee coupons in promotions. They reduce the fee you pay on specific trades. They also reduce the commission that trade generates, so the rebate on a couponed trade is smaller. A coupon is still a saving, just not one that stacks fully with the rebate.

Putting it together

A trader paying 1,000 USDT of fees a month who moves half of the entries to maker orders and is referred at a 40% rebate ends the month with an effective fee cost well under half of where they started. None of it required a better entry or a better exit, only a better setup.
